Vanilla Café Horchata Recipe
Horchata + Coffee + Vanilla
We layer our lightly roasted, single origin Brazil with natural, aromatic notes of Vanilla in our flavored coffees. We love Peet’s Vanilla Flavored Coffee on its own, hot or cold, with a splash of something creamy and a hint of something sweet, like sugar or honey. It makes for elevated everyday sipping, but we’re taking it up a notch with this vanilla horchata recipe inspired by something you’d find at a café. It’s an easy recipe that makes for a sweet afternoon treat or brunch accompaniment.
There are different types and styles of horchata throughout the world—in Spain the beverage is made with tiger nuts, in Puerto Rico with sesame seeds, and in Mexico it’s typically rice-based with a touch of cinnamon. One thing they all have in common is serving the beverage ice cold. We took our inspiration from Mexican Horchata, subbing in creamy oat milk for the rice. Cinnamon and sugar enhance the flavor of our Vanilla Flavored Coffee for a frothy, blended sipper with comforting, warming notes of sweetness and spice.
Peet’s Vanilla Café Horchata
Makes one serving
INGREDIENTS
4 ounces oat milk
1 tablespoon sugar, separated
¼ teaspoon cinnamon sugar, plus more as garnish
1/8 teaspoon vanilla extract
4 ounces iced Peet’s Vanilla Flavored Coffee
Ice
DIRECTIONS
- Start with cold, filtered water.
- Use 8 tablespoons of Peet’s Flavored Coffee for every 16 ounces of water and prepare using your preferred brew method.
- Measure 1 cup of water and 1 cup of ice cubes into a pitcher (the colder the better!). Pour the hot, concentrated brew into the pitcher and stir until all the ice has melted.
- Make cinnamon sugar: combine 1 teaspoon sugar with ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon.
- Measure oat milk, remaining sugar, ¼ teaspoon cinnamon sugar, and vanilla extract into a blender pitcher. Blend until dry ingredients are integrated and oat milk is slightly frothy.
- Pour into a tall glass over ice until half full. Slowly pour in four ounces of iced Peet’s Vanilla Flavored Coffee so that it layers with the oat milk.
