Las Hermanas Social Premium Project
Since 2003, Peet’s has sourced coffee from Las Hermanas, a group of all-women farmers who are part of SOPPEXCAA, a cooperative union nestled in the highlands of Jinotega, Nicaragua.
This sisterhood of women growers is dedicated to quality, equality, and community, carefully monitoring and tracking growing and processing conditions to ensure they meet Peet’s stringent quality standards.
Their unwavering focus on coffee quality has transformed them into vital economic contributors to their households, thus helping improve life for themselves, their families, and communities.
Peet’s purchase of Las Hermanas’ Fair Trade Certified™ coffee includes a "social premium" that SOPPEXCCA directs toward a community development project of the members’ choice, further solidifying a relationship that has been sustained for close-on twenty years.
Las Hermanas by the numbers
- Established in 2013
